#Threads #Fediverse #blocklist

Threads will defederate any instance that doesn't follow their rules -- including that your instance must have a "Publicly accessible feed".

Very amusing.

Here are the current rules:
When Threads blocks communication with other servers on the fediverse

We want Threads users to be able to explore the fediverse, find new connections, and have meaningful conversations across this social network of interconnected servers. We also want you to feel safe and comfortable when engaging with people on other servers. In certain situations, we may add a server to our blocklist, which will block communication between that server and Threads.

Server guidelines
A server may be added to our server blocklist if it doesn’t comply with our guidelines for communicating with Threads.
We’ll block a server if it:

We’ll also block a server if it doesn’t have a:
  • Sufficient privacy policy; or
  • Publicly available policy to restrict access to users under the age of 13; or
  • Publicly accessible feed

Ha! When I go to the Threads homepage, all I can see is "Log in with your Instagram account". They don't have a public feed anywhere that I can see.

It figures.

Although Hubzilla does not have a single public feed, anyone, including Threads, can go to the directory and review every single user in the directory, each of which have their own feed. If their goal is to do a server review, which it appears that is the purpose of the policy, they can accomplish that task via the directory. The question is, will they require a single feed, or will they be willing to look at users in the directory?

Mike just recently disabled the public directory in (streams) -- it's only available to logged-in users. I don't know whether Hubzilla is planning to do this too.

As for what Threads will require, I can only guess. But it probably needs to be easily-findable by an automated system.
