Screenshot of followable Threads accounts

Looks like @zuck is not the only Threads profile that’s followable on the Fediverse. I’m seeing multiple accounts show up from a threads.net search.

@Chris Trottier the opt in is only available for public profiles. Unless your friends and family are okay with keeping their profile public on the long run, you won't have much luck getting them on board, I'm afraid.

My cousin has her profile already set to private as far as I can see, so I don't think I can bring her here.

If Meta will keep it like this, then it will simply be a poor implementation on their side and not an actual viable way to keep up with anyone else than influencers, spammers, scammers, public accounts for news outlets and institutions that don't have/want to join the fediverse propper and probably some of your friends that find it cool enough to keep their profiles public.

@Cătă I think there is an assumption that the fediverse only consists of public profiles and posts. But there are actually several projects that have access control and privacy, and I think that will become more popular as the fediverse grows. I am not sure how they will deal with that.

And, on other platforms, it is possible to federate with a private profile. In that case, only your display name and fediverse address are revealed. And people can only see your public posts.

I think the issue is that this distinction may be too much for people who have never heard of the fediverse and don't understand what being part of a network means.

@Scott M. Stolz well, my profile is kinda private as well. Nothing is available to anyone that is not logged in the server that I'm on at all. And I can also set the privacy to anything before I post so only the people I want can see it. That's what I like about Friendica.
