I never understood why people get bent out of shape over other people's sexuality, lifestyle, or personality. If it makes them happy and they are not hurting anyone else, what's the problem?

They don't have to conform with your way of life, and you don't have to conform to theirs either.

I like how Filipinos approach it. If you are straight, that is okay. If you are gay, that is okay too. If you are a ladyboy, that is okay too. You are not limited to a particular stereotype or role.

And you don't have to modify your body to conform with other people's expectations. If you are a feminine man, that is okay. A masculine woman, that is okay too. Be yourself.

Just let people be who they are. Live and let live.

I could write a long cynical response to this, but I think it boils down to: It's exciting to be filled with hatred and anger, and some people make a habit of that, rather than reserving it for rare actual emergencies.

@Bill Statler True. I could write a whole set of books on why destructive behavior persists, ranging from people who grew up in abusive environments (knowingly or unknowingly) adopting abusive behaviors, to being so frustrated at life that they take it out on people who don't deserve it, to people having a superiority complex, to people being told lies so they unjustly attack someone else's opponent, to even mental illness. There are a lot of causes of toxic behavior.

So I do understand the causes. Toxic people are often pawns in someone else's game, and/or are hurt people lashing out. There is a reason why some of the worst bullies are or were abuse victims themselves. They learned that behavior somewhere.

Everyone goes through things. But, ultimately, everyone has a choice. Get infected by the toxins, or take the high road and rise above it. After all, one can't end the cycle of abuse if one become an abuser too.

Being angry at someone else is like taking poison yourself and expecting the other person to get sick. Attacking innocent people because someone told you that they are evil does not make the world a better place. Judging people and thinking you are better than other people does not make you better than other people. It just does not make sense and is counterproductive at best, and destructive at worst.
