People are talking a lot about whether Bluesky is decentralized or not. With bridging and multi-protocol platforms, it does not matter. With connections between the fediverse and the ATmosphere, people have a choice of where their account is, which is one of the main points of decentralization.

It matters when Bluesky defederates from Bridgy Fed, which it did this past week. I'm not sure whether it's working again yet.

@Bill Statler They are working on fixing that. And things are being put into place to prevent such things from happening again. Many of us are talking about putting together an organization to run and fund Bridgy Fed.

But, I think that the bridge won't be the only way to Bluesky. For example, Friendica already has a Bluesky addon. At some point, I would like to port that over to Hubzilla. And then we use Bridgy Fed version of the address for people on ActivityPub that don't have native support for Bluesky.

It may take years, but I think that eventually our networks with merge, even though they are on different protocols. Just like how we use Nomad Protocol internally, but seamlessly connect to ActivityPub now.
