FediverseVery long article from someone who is simultaneously distrusting and sympathetic about Threads joining the Fediverse. If you're not quite sure about Threads, this will help you to be more not quite sure.
My feelings: It's cool that the current Threads developers seem sincerely enthusiastic about federating. But in the long run, they will become irrelevant. Threads is in the early stages of "Embrace", with some advance planning for "Extend". It's possible that their ultimate goal isn't "Extinguish", but rather to be like the GMail of federated microblogging -- not becoming a literal monopoly, because that looks bad to the government regulators, but merely being the overwhelming dominant entity.

Okay I finally did a full write up of the event I went to just before Christmas at @meta in San Francisco in which they laid out their plans for integrating Threads with the Fediverse. It's very long and thorough. Love to get people's thoughts.
