ActivityPub works similar to email in the sense that messages get sent to your inbox. ActivityPub does not give you the ability to log into other websites or platforms, which seems to be what you are referring to.
For example, I am on Hubzilla and you are on Mastodon. You see my posts in your inbox and they look similar to Mastodon posts. And your posts get sent to me and I view them in my Hubzilla inbox.
As far as the message you are getting, I think it is referring to the fact that some messages may not make it into your inbox and you have to visit the web version of the conversation to see it all.
One handy tip is that if you visit that conversation on another server, if you copy the URL of the conversation and paste it into Mastodon's search box, sometimes it will import the post for you so that you can reply to it in Mastodon.
