This is a time when I'm glad we have natural gas. Even though the power is out, we can at least cook the food in the fridge before it spoils. And tomorrow we start eating frozen food, which will just be refrigerated food by tomorrow without power.

Day 4 with no power. We were able to get a gasoline generator from Home Depot. Saved some of the food, but not everything was savable. And at least we have a fan now. It's so hot.

The electricity distribution company has clearly dropped the ball. Millions are still without power. Even though they called for mutual aid from other electric companies from other states, they didn't stage these workers in advance, like in the past. Once staged after the storm was over, they were slow to dispatch workers to the field. While we were cleaning up our yards, they were sitting in parking lots waiting for orders. Such a fiasco.

I saw something unusual. Apparently, people are so hot that they'll find a gas station that's run out of gas and park under the canopy to get some shade. You think the gas station is open with all the cars there. Nope, just people parked next to the pumps.

At least some of the bigger gas stations (usually run by bigger companies) have generators to run their pumps. So, even if there is no power, you can get gas, at least until they run out.

My generator is running better gas than my truck, because most gas stations already ran out of regular unleaded gasoline.

Supposedly our circuit should get repaired by the end of today, according to the power distribution company.

And the generator is running out of fuel.

So, with my luck lately, if I go hunt for gasoline for the generator, the power will come on after I make the purchase. But if I don't get gas, the power won't come on until tomorrow.

On a positive note, birds have been crapping on my truck for the last few months when it was parked in the driveway, and I finally got tired of it and parked on the street. Hurricane came and some of the tree limbs landed in my driveway. Maybe the birds were trying to tell me something.

Several years ago, in preparation for a hurricane (I forget which one), we parallel parked our minivan in front of the garage door so it would have a bit more protection from the weather. It is a good thing we did. A tree fell across the driveway and would have taken out the back end of the minivan had it been parked normally.

The surreal situation we live in. We can get overnight delivery from Amazon, but still be without power. The electricity distribution company says our neighborhood has power, but in reality, our part of the neighborhood doesn't have power. Politicians playing politics, and a CEO of a public utility who would rather pinch pennies than spend money on maintenance and power restoration. What a mess.

Well, we finally got power back. House is a mess. Power cords everywhere. Branches need to be cut up. Trees need to be trimmed back. Roof needs to be checked. Shed needs to be rebuilt or repaired. Spoiled food needs to be thrown away and the refrigerators cleaned. Lots of laundry and other cleaning to do.

We were able to save some of the food in the freezers when we got a generator, but we couldn't save everything. Anything refrigerated that we could not eat immediately is dead. For some reason, the older fridge would trip the GFCI on the generator's outlets, so even though we had a generator, we couldn't run that fridge. Luckily the small freezer in the garage didn't constantly trip the GFCI... so whatever we could fit in there was saved.

Got my computers up though, and on Monday my wife and I are back to work.
